Rubber Compression Moulding
Using the latest equipment and technology Industrial Rubber manufacture in the UK a wide range of sponge rubber products and components, mainly used for sealing applications by large order, custom made or designed. The properties of sponge rubber as a material is incredibly versatile, tough and has fantastic longevity. We can offer different grades and polymers, explore more about sponge rubber materials.
What is sponge rubber compression moulding?
Sponge rubber compression moulding is a really efficient way of forming a rubber end product through a simple manufacturing process. The rubber compound or raw material is placed with heat and pressure to form the end product into shape, then using a heated tool and clamping pressure of a press, further to this the rubber chemically changes, then the cooling process begins with finally the rubber product extraction.
Benefits of compression moulding
- Extremely economical for the buyer
- Less waste produced by manufacturer, working on exact specifications and rubber mould
- Cost effective for tooling, buyer can supply own tooling generally
- Process many types of polymers, and those with especially hard, durable surface (high durometer)
- Good for producing large, or thick rubber components
All of our sponge moulded products use the compression moulding process for manufacture. This is quick, efficient and easily processed to achieve your end product specifications. At Industrial Rubber we can offer sponge to metal, and sponge to rubber bonding, most of the sponge mouldings we manufacture are for sealing applications, because of the high grade and qualities.
Sponge rubber materials
We can supply several grades of EPDM and Nitrile Sponge ranging in density.
EPDM
Is a type of synthetic rubber, and has a wide range of properties, mainly used for sealing, weatherproofing, windows and doors, it is extremely durable and hardwearing.
Nitrile Sponge
Can be soft and flexible and used traditionally in shock or impact absorption, noise reduction and insultion properties, also for gas, air and moisture sealing.
Compression moulding sizes
Our largest sponge moulding press is 2250mm X 1250mm where we are able to manufacture large seals and gaskets.
INDUSTRIAL RUBBER CAN HELP WITH BOTH MATERIAL AND PROCESS SELECTION FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF SPONGE RUBBER COMPONENTS.
Sponge is used in applications where the Seal has to cope with large tolerances such as Ceramic pipes. It is also used where there are low compression forces available to effect a seal eg. Plastic boxes and closures, automotive doors/ hoods/ boot seals.
Some Sponge rubbers have the ability to be compressed and reduce in volume so it is used in applications where large deformations are required when fitted. Solid rubbers require large loads to deflect them and behave hydraulically and bulging out when compressed.
Sponge Rubber can also be used where Thermal or Sound insulation is required.
VARIOUS TYPES OF SPONGE ARE AVAILABLE:
- Open Cell Sponge
- Closed Cell Sponge
- Moulded Sponge
- Extruded Sponge
- Die Cut Sponge with and without adhesive backing
INDUSTRIAL RUBBER CAN SUPPLY A WIDE RANGE OF FOAM AND CELLULAR MATERIALS, INCLUDING, NEOPRENE, PVC NITRILE, SILICONE , EPDM etc.
