Places of InterestIf you visit this part of the Country you will find plenty of interesting things to see and do. Portsmouth is only about 15 minutes drive away or there are good rail connections to the City centre or the ferries and harbour. Ferries run to the Isle of Wight, Channel Islands and France from here as well as a hovercraft service from Southsea sea front to the Isle of Wight.
Southsea has a very long promenade with Clarence Pier, amusements, Castle, D-Day Museum, model village and many other activities. Portsmouth which is next to Southsea, is stemmed in naval history and is home to many of our warships. In the historic Dockyard lies HMS Victory - Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, the Mary Rose - Henry VIII's warship that sunk in front of his eyes whilst watching from Southsea Castle and HMS Warrior - the Navy's first ironclad - all well worth a visit!
Other interesting places are the Spinnaker Tower* and Gunwarf keys - ideal shopping and plently of good places to eat!
Further to the West on the coast stands the impressive Portchester Castle. Dating back to Roman times and used more recently to house French prisoners during the Napoleonic wars.
